Jack Bamford, born John Bamford on 7 March 1937, was awarded the George Cross at age 15 for rescuing his younger brothers during a house fire. His award was announced in December 1952, and he received it from Queen Elizabeth in March 1953. After this recognition, he led a quiet life working in the vehicle breakers industry for over thirty years. Bamford passed away on 2 November 2023 at the age of 86.
