Jack M. Elkin (1913-1995) was an American actuary and mathematician known for his contributions to mathematics and actuarial science. He graduated from the College of New York City in 1931 and earned a master's degree a year later from Columbia University. Elkin worked at the Railroad Retirement Board and later at the Martin E. Segal Company until 1979. He also taught mathematics at several institutions, including the Illinois Institute of Technology. In 1965, he demonstrated that Alhazen's problem is generally unsolvable using only a compass and straightedge.
