Jack R. Lousma is a retired Colonel in the United States Marine Corps, aeronautical engineer, former naval aviator, NASA astronaut, and politician born on February 29, 1936. He was part of the crew for the second manned flight of Skylab in 1973 and commanded STS-3, the third Space Shuttle mission, in 1982. Additionally, he was involved with the support team for Apollo 10 and was a member of Astronaut Group 5. Later, in 1984, he ran as a Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in Michigan but lost to Carl Levin.
