John Donald Rae was a notable flying ace of the Royal New Zealand Air Force during World War II. Credited with the destruction of twelve enemy aircraft, he flew Supermarine Spitfires and served with several squadrons, including No. 485 and No. 249. After being wounded and imprisoned, he returned to England and later became a flying instructor. After the war, he established a clothing manufacturing business and spent his later years in Kerikeri, New Zealand, where he passed away in 2007 at the age of 88.
