Jack van der Geest was a notable figure known for being one of the few individuals to escape from the Buchenwald concentration camp during World War II. He achieved this remarkable escape on March 3, 1943. Van der Geest was an active member of both the Dutch and French resistance movements. Later in the war, he served as a translator for the 101st Airborne Division. His experiences are detailed in his book, 'Was God on Vacation?', which also includes a copy of his death certificate.
