Jacob Walstra was a Dutch athlete born on March 15, 1918, in Ljouwert. He set a Dutch record in the 3000 meters steeplechase in 1947 and became the national champion in the 10 kilometers the same year. After World War II, he emigrated to the United States with his family, opening a deli in Salt Lake City. Tragically, he drowned while fishing on June 17, 1985. His grandson Joey, who was raised by him and his wife, took care of his grandmother until her death in 2013.
