After his ship, the Jaguar, was sunk during the Dunkirk evacuation, he was rescued by the British navy and later posthumously awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur. Known for his indiscipline, he served in various capacities including commander of the aviso Commandant Dominé during the raid on Dakar and was friends with notable figures like Joseph Kessel and Romain Gary. He died on June 29, 1949.
