He has been the CEO of Bourbon since 1979 and remains chairman of the board after stepping down as CEO on January 1, 2011. Known for transforming Bourbon from sugar production to large-scale distribution and maritime services, he was among the wealthiest in France. Despite a corruption investigation in 1996, he continued his business ventures until Bourbon collapsed under a €2.7 billion debt in 2019.
