Jacques-Louis Lions (May 2, 1928 – May 17, 2001) was a prominent French mathematician known for his significant contributions to the theory of partial differential equations and stochastic processes, among other areas. In 1986, he received the prestigious SIAM John von Neumann Prize and was recognized as a highly cited researcher by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). His son, Pierre-Louis Lions, is also a distinguished mathematician and currently holds some of his father's academic positions. In 1994, Pierre-Louis received the Fields Medal from the International Mathematical Union.
