Jacques Rogge was a Belgian orthopedic surgeon and sports official, serving as the eighth president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from 2001 to 2013. Born on May 2, 1942, in Ghent, he was an accomplished sailor, competing in the 1968, 1972, and 1976 Summer Olympics, where he became world champion and was a sixteen-time Belgian champion. Before his presidency at the IOC, he was elected chairman of the Belgian Olympic Committee from 1990 to 1992 and became a full member of the IOC in 1991. Rogge passed away on August 29, 2021.
