Jagannath Kaushal was an influential Indian politician and lawyer, serving as the Law Minister of India from 1982 to 1985. He practiced law initially in Patiala, before ascending to numerous prominent legal positions including Advocate-General of Punjab and Additional Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court. Kaushal was an expert in civil and criminal law, and he played a significant role in Indira Gandhi's election petition. As a UN representative, he signed a treaty on behalf of India. He passed away in 2001, with the Punjab and Haryana High Court suspending work in his honor.
