Jaime Luis Lavados Montes was a Chilean astronomer and academic, born on February 13, 1937, in Talca. He became the first elected rector of the University of Chile after the return to democracy. Lavados was noted for his contributions to astronomy, discovering new constellations and leading various astronomical research projects until his death on October 8, 2016, in Santiago.
