Jake Tapper (born March 12, 1969) is an American journalist, author, and cartoonist. He is the Chief Washington Correspondent for CNN, hosting the weekday news program The Lead with Jake Tapper and the Sunday public affairs program State of the Union. Before joining CNN, Tapper reported for ABC News as the Senior White House Correspondent and won multiple Merriman Smith Memorial Awards. He also received an Emmy Award for coverage of Obama’s inauguration and authored the bestseller The Outpost.
