Jakob II Egede was a Greenlandic poet, composer, and musician born on January 19, 1901, in Igaliku. He belonged to a notable farming family and dedicated over 60 years to creating songs and poems, often inspired by life in Igaliku. Despite losing his wife and works in a fire in the 1970s, he reconstructed most of his collection from memory. He contributed to the Greenlandic songbook Tussiaqattarutit and received the Greenlandic Culture Prize in 1983 alongside Hans Lynge. Egede passed away in 1988 at the age of 87, having composed around 200 songs.
