Jakucho Setouchi is a Japanese writer and advocate of the Tendai Buddhist school, born on May 15, 1922, in Takushima. Before entering monastic life in 1973, she was known as Harumi Setouchi. She served as the abbess of the Tendai-ji Temple from 1987 to 2005 and currently holds the position at Enraku-ji Temple. Setouchi is a bhikshuni, which corresponds to the rank of a bishop. Some of her major works include 'End of Summer' and 'Place'. She is also known for her contemporary Japanese translation of 'The Tale of Genji'.
