He represented Somalia in various competitions and also ran for Fairleigh Dickinson University. After his athletic career, he transitioned to coaching, training world-class middle-distance athletes. Additionally, Jama is the elder brother of Ibrahim Mohamed Aden, who was also a competitive runner.
