Jamal Abu Samhadana (1963-2006) was a prominent Palestinian military leader from the Gaza Strip. After studying tank engineering in Germany, he became involved with the Palestinian Authority's security forces but opposed corruption and was arrested for protesting. He founded the Popular Resistance Committees and its military wing, Al-Nasser Salah al-Din Brigades. Abu Samhadana survived four assassination attempts before being killed in an Israeli airstrike in 2006 while training militants. He was known for tactical assaults on Israeli targets, including the infamous Merkava tank attack.
