James A. 'Jim' Scott, born on January 14, 1942, is a former Republican member of the Florida Senate and Broward County Commission. He was elected to the Florida Senate in 1976 and served as its President in 1994, leaving the Senate in 2000. Later, he was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to the Broward County Commission, serving until losing reelection in 2006. Considered for a U.S. Senate appointment in 2009, he ultimately did not fill the position. He was born in Pikeville, Kentucky, and holds a BA and JD from the University of Kentucky.
