James B. Carey was a prominent American jurist who served as a justice of the Delaware Supreme Court from 1963 to 1974. Born on February 17, 1905, in Georgetown, Delaware, he obtained his law degree from the Temple University School of Law. After working in the insurance sector, he was appointed by Governor Walter W. Bacon to the Delaware Superior Court in 1945. Carey's nomination to the Supreme Court by Governor Elbert N. Carvel occurred in 1963, and he served a total of eleven years before retiring in 1974.
