James B. Kaler, often known as Jim Kaler, is an American astronomer and science writer. He completed his primary and secondary education in Albany and earned his A.B. degree from the University of Michigan in 1960. Kaler pursued postgraduate studies at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel in Germany (1961-62) and UCLA (1962-64), where he obtained his PhD in Astronomy in 1964 under the supervision of Lawrence H. Aller.
