James C. Marsters (April 5, 1924 - July 28, 2009) was a deaf orthodontist in Pasadena, California, who co-invented the first electric typewriter that could use phone lines in 1964, enabling telephone communication for the deaf. Although the actual design work was primarily done by Robert Whitburch, Marsters was instrumental in promoting the use of the device, making significant contributions to assistive technologies for the deaf community.
