James Dickey (February 2, 1923 - January 19, 1997) was an American writer, novelist, poet, and screenwriter. He is regarded as one of the prominent novelists and poets in America. In 1966, he received the National Book Award for Poetry for his first poetry collection 'Selected Poems.' His first novel 'Deliverance,' published in 1970, won the French Medici Prize for Foreign Books in 1971.
