James Frederick Almand is a Virginia attorney and retired judge, born on October 18, 1948. He was a Democratic legislator representing Arlington, Virginia, serving in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1978 until mid-2003. During his tenure, he became chair of the House Courts of Justice committee, which plays a crucial role in selecting judicial candidates in Virginia. After his time in the legislature, he served as a Circuit Court judge in the 17th judicial circuit until his retirement in December 2011. He holds undergraduate and law degrees from the College of William and Mary.
