James F. Mead was an American biochemist known for his work in fat chemistry. He taught biochemistry and nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1976, he co-authored the book 'The Unsaturated and Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids in Health and Disease' with Armand Fulco, which remains a cited work. The Mead Acid is named after him.
