James H. Carson Jr. was an American lawyer and politician, born on February 14, 1935, and he passed away on August 28, 2015. He served as the North Carolina Attorney General after being appointed in 1974. Carson ran for the position in a special election but lost to Democrat Rufus L. Edmisten. He also had a political career in the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing the 36th district in Mecklenburg County. He remains the most recent Republican to hold the Attorney General position in North Carolina.
