James J. Lander (October 10, 1914 – October 10, 1996) was an American experimental physicist known for his work in surface physics. He received his Master's degree from Canisius College in 1938 and earned a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Cornell University in 1941. Lander worked at Bell Laboratories starting in 1941. In 1975, he was awarded the Davisson-Germer award along with Homer D. Hagstrum for pioneering microscopic investigations of the physical and chemical properties of specifically prepared surfaces of metals and semiconductors.
