James M. Henderson was the founder of the Henderson Agency, established in 1946. The agency became one of the largest in the Southeast, and he served briefly as Special Assistant to the Postmaster General. In 1970, he was the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor of South Carolina. Henderson was recognized as the secretary-treasurer of the American Association of Advertising Agencies in 1971. His life story was described as a rags-to-riches saga. He retired in 1986 and was noted for significantly impacting national advertising from Greenville.
