James MacGibbon was a Scottish publisher, born on 18 February 1912 in Glasgow. He co-founded the publishing house MacGibbon & Kee in 1948. His education took place at Fettes College. During World War II, he served as a second lieutenant in the Intelligence Corps, utilizing his fluency in German. He was involved in espionage for the Soviet Union, passing critical information regarding German troop movements and Operation Overlord. MacGibbon passed away on 29 February 2000.
