James Maurice Scott was a British explorer and writer born on December 13, 1906, in Egypt. His father was an English judge. He graduated from Cambridge University in 1928 and participated in an exploring expedition to Labrador. He also served in the 5th Scots Guard Ski Battalion. Scott is notable for his biography of Gino Watkins and his novel Sea-Wyf and Biscuit, published in 1955, which was adapted into the film Sea Wife in 1957 featuring Richard Burton and Joan Collins.
