James R. Chelikowsky is an American physicist born on June 1, 1948, in Manhattan, Kansas. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Physics from Kansas State University in 1970 and completed his Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1975. Chelikowsky worked at Bell Laboratories and the University of Oregon before joining Exxon Research. Since 1987, he has been a professor at the University of Minnesota and is the W. A. Tex Moncrief Jr. Professor for Computational Materials at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on algorithms for high-performance computing in material properties prediction.
