James Swearingen, born in 1947, is an American composer and arranger known for his contributions to concert literature for high school bands. He earned his Master's from Ohio State University and a Bachelor's from Bowling Green State University. As Professor of Music Emeritus and former Department Chair of Music Education at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, he has composed numerous works typically ranging from two to six minutes, which are performed at high school band concerts. He has received several awards from ASCAP.
