James T. Conway (born December 26, 1947) is a retired four-star general of the United States Marine Corps who served as the 34th Commandant of the Marine Corps. His past roles include Director of Operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Commanding General of the 1st Marine Division. He was involved in the Iraq invasion and the First Battle of Fallujah in 2003, and oversaw the construction of a military base on the ruins of Babylon. Conway led a significant number of troops during combat operations in Iraq.
