Jan Dirk van der Ploeg is a Dutch emeritus professor of orthopedagogy, previously affiliated with the University of Amsterdam and Leiden University. He studied social pedagogy and psychology, and worked for 15 years in youth assistance before transitioning to academia. He was a senior lecturer in orthopedagogy at the University of Amsterdam and psychology at Wageningen University. From 1980 to 1983, he served as a professor of orthopedagogy at the University of Amsterdam and from 1982 to 1993 at Leiden University.
