He founded the Rica hotel chain in 1975 along with his brother-in-law, Prince Carl Bernadotte, and served as the chairman of Rica Hotels AS until 2011. Rivelsrud was awarded the Knight 1st Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav in 2006 for his contribution to the Norwegian business community. His older sister was Princess Kristine Bernadotte, who lived from 1932 to 2014.
