Jan Heij was a Dutch politician born on July 2, 1920, in Ede. He was a farmer's son who pursued agricultural vocational education. He served as assistant secretary of the Christian Farmers' and Gardeners' Union in Gelderland and later as secretary-treasurer. He was a municipal council member in Arnhem starting in 1958, became an alderman in 1964, and a member of the Provincial States of Gelderland in 1965. He also served in the First Chamber of the States-General for eleven years beginning in 1968 and was appointed mayor of Scherpenzeel in 1969, retiring in 1985. He passed away on May 6, 1999.
