He spent many years living in Harstad and is best known for his hit song "Tiotusen röda rosor" by Thore Skogman. Høiland achieved several chart successes in Norway during his career. He made his performance debut at Cafe Inger in Stavanger in 1957 and released his first record "Det vil komme av seg selv"/"Dormi-dormi-dormi" in 1958 on Columbia, accompanied by Finn Våland on piano.
