Dr. Jan Kruis was a Dutch comic artist and illustrator, born on June 8, 1933, in Rotterdam. He began drawing comics as a child and became widely known for his series "Jan, Jans en de kinderen," which started in 1970 and was published in the Dutch women's magazine "Libelle." In Switzerland, the series is known as "Die Tromps". He had previously worked in the studio of Dutch comic pioneer Maarten Toonder. Jan Kruis was made a Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion in 1996.
