He learned the trade of a sheet metal worker from his father and took over the family business in 1991. An educated mechanical engineer, he developed the cooling technology known as SpotCooler in 1999. Stokke was politically active from 1973 as a member of Anders Lange's Party, serving on the municipal council and county assembly in Nord-Trøndelag, and held leadership roles within his party.
