He began his education at V Państwowym Gimnazjum Neoklasycznym but had to stop due to an eye disease. After working in various roles, including as a clerk and a trader, he debuted as a writer in 1955 with short stories in the magazine 'Życie Literackie'. He collaborated with several Kraków publications and was associated with the Muszyna poetic group in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
