Jan Václav Kašpar was a Czech mineralogist born on April 15, 1908, in Ústí nad Orlicí. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague after World War II. In 1952, he became the first rector of the newly established University of Chemical Technology in Prague for a two-year term. Kašpar led the Institute of Geochemistry and Raw Materials from 1956 to 1964 and became a corresponding member of the Czech Academy of Sciences in 1960. His work focused on crystallochemistry and geochemistry.
