Jan Willem Berix, also known as Giel, was a Dutch resistance fighter during World War II, born on April 12, 1907, in Meers, Netherlands. He studied philosophy and theology, later becoming a priest in 1933. Berix served as a chaplain in Heerlen, where he was responsible for youth work and supported the poor and disadvantaged. He was also the director of the boys' congregation and spiritual advisor to a Catholic scouting group. He died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945, becoming a notable figure in the resistance.
