Crowned Miss Oklahoma in 1966, she went on to win the title of Miss America in 1967. With a 16-year career in television news, she served as an anchor in major markets like Oklahoma City and Dallas-Fort Worth. Appointed by Governor Frank Keating, she was the Secretary of Tourism and Recreation from 1999 to 2003 and has authored multiple articles and books, while also serving as a spokesperson for The Presbyterian Health Foundation.
