Jane Somerville, born on January 24, 1933, is a prominent British professor of cardiology known for her significant contributions to the understanding and management of congenital heart disease in adults (GUCH). She became the first female cardiologist to perform a heart transplant in the UK in 1968. Somerville trained at notable institutions and was instrumental in establishing the world's first dedicated ward for children and adolescents with congenital heart defects, as well as founding the Somerville Foundation in her honor to support this area of medicine.
