She worked as an engineering technician on the Eisenhower Tunnel project in Colorado, where she faced sexism and was barred from entering the tunnel due to a superstition against women in underground work. In 1972, she filed a significant class action lawsuit for sexual discrimination, leading to a settlement that allowed her entry. Her efforts made her a symbol of women's rights, and she was inducted into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame posthumously in 2012.
