Giannis Christou was a Greek composer born on January 9, 1926, in Cairo, Egypt, to Greek parents. He was educated in an English school in Alexandria before obtaining a master's degree in philosophy from Cambridge University in 1948, where he studied under Ludwig Wittgenstein and Bertrand Russell. He also studied music with Hans Redlich and furthered his education in Rome and Zurich. Christou died in a car accident in Athens, Greece, on January 9, 1970, coinciding with his 44th birthday.
