Janis Hughes is a Scottish politician born in 1958 in Glasgow, associated with the Labour Party. She worked in the health sector for 20 years before entering politics. Hughes successfully ran in the 1999 Scottish Parliament elections for the Glasgow Rutherglen constituency, winning by a significant margin over the SNP candidate. She retained her seat in the 2003 elections but did not seek re-election in 2007, which led to her successor James Kelly assuming the role.
