Janka Hienijusz (Ivan Piatrovich Hienijusz) was a notable Belarusian public figure and victim of political repression, born on February 24, 1902, in Krynki and died on February 19, 1979, in Zelva. He studied medicine in Prague and became a dermatologist. He married poetess Larysa Hienijusz, and they had a son, Yurka. Janka was involved with Belarusian cultural movements and opposed Nazi occupation. He was arrested by Soviet authorities, sentenced to 25 years, and released in 1956 but denied return to Czechoslovakia. He worked as a doctor in his later years.
