Janka Istenič is a Slovenian archaeologist born on December 19, 1960, in Ljubljana. She graduated in 1985 from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ljubljana and completed her doctorate there in 1992. In 1991, she became the curator for Roman archaeology at the National Museum of Slovenia in Ljubljana and in 1999 she took on the role of head of its archaeological department. Her research primarily focuses on the material culture of the Roman period, especially pottery, glass, and military equipment from Poetovio (modern-day Ptuj).
