Janne Virkkunen is a Finnish journalist born on December 8, 1948, in Helsinki. He served as the editor-in-chief of Helsingin Sanomat, one of Finland's leading newspapers, from 1991 until his retirement in 2010. Virkkunen also held the position of chairman of the International Press Institute between 2008 and 2010. Beyond journalism, he co-authored the book 'Tamminiemen pesänjakajat' in the early 1980s, which discussed the political power struggles during the latter part of Urho Kekkonen's presidency. He is the great-grandson of composer Jean Sibelius.
