Jannis Noya Makrigiannis was a musician of mixed heritage, being half Greek, a quarter Danish, and a quarter Indonesian. He was the lead vocalist and guitarist for the folk/rock/pop band Choir of Young Believers. Previously, he was a member of the band Lake Placid. The Choir performed at the Roskilde Festival in 2008 and 2016, receiving positive reviews. After a challenging period beginning in 2013, when the band disbanded and later reformed with new members, they released new experimental music in 2016.
